No comparison. Those who sang with her were petrified and did not duet with her anymore. At 100 years old, she is a monument and England is so proud of her.
When my mom died 25 years ago she had wanted this sung at her funeral but we always thought the title was Jerusalem, confusing it with the William Blake hymn. Anyway the priest didn’t know it and we didn’t know it was called The Holy City. All I knew was that it was featured in the 30’s film San Francisco. In the days before the internet you couldn’t figure these things out very easily. I’m sooo grateful to hear it now. It really chokes me up. Thanks for posting.
Thank you, Vera Lynn. You are strong. One day in our small song group, I asked: can we sing : Lily Marleen, but not anyone remembered this song, or were not able to sing it, therefore thank you, now I hope, we will sing the song. You were lovely!
My dad told me an odd thing, when him and his comrades were in the desert and then Italy they preferred to listen to Gracie Fields. Listening to Vera made them feel more homesick than they already were. I think that is a tribute to one of the best female singers ever. Luv her

Those who dislike the song and the singer are either anti-semitic or do not know how to appreciate godly music. What a shame!
