The girl was born a mermaid- meant to live a different life than most. She could hide her secret but at the end, that was who she was meant to be. The wolf was her protector, her family, who raised her unconditionally and understood she was different. At some point she leaves him to explore, he is sad and understandably feels betrayed. He rips off his own tail, a piece of himself to throw into the water. It is not lost however, she finds it and at the end as winter is coming she emerges from the water. The apples are no longer rotten and wormy- they are new and shiny. I feel this is a metaphor of the unconditional love between a parent and a child.
This song was my introduction to these guys. Listened to the rest of their catalogue since; some good stuff, but still none of them hit me quite like this one. Amazing track

why is this song so sad to me - without any distinguishable lyric being about anything particularly ‘sadly themed’.

I woke up this morning with this song in my head. I hadn’t listened to it in a few years. Strange, but thank you brain for reminding me of this gem.
