They are simply the best. I love when they did the jazz standards, I wonder how long it took them to learn this arrangement?Fantastic!!. Their harmonies and scatting show how talented they are, how well they work together and how they can each improvise on the fly.
And playing piano on this lightening fast performance is Mr Tom Salisbury. A former US Army Band Musician I had the very good fortune of knowing for three years in the 26th Army Band in New York City. Tom was assigned to that God awful war in Vietnam for about a year and when he came back, he found the Pointer Sisters or they found him.. Tom went on to be a big time piano player which is self evident from this performance. The Pointer Sisters were a big part of his musical career I am sure...
This song was before my time, but I remember finding this record in my dads collection and thinking WHAT? the Pointer Sisters, it was 1985 I was 4 turning 5, because I knew the group played it, blown away, thanks for the clip neva seen it on video, this song is an extremely hard, difficult jazz number, amazing group, WOW.
Gospel.. scatting...jazz...pop/rock...soul...r/b...rock...country...blues... adult contemporary... did I leave out any category that these ladies have not mastered... truly outstanding performers
Missing June Pointer so much...R.I.P. They were at their best when the four of them were together. Hoping for a reunion with Ruth, Anita and Bonnie. One of my top girl groups of all times.
