I wept like a child when I learned of your passing, Joe. your music helped me through flight school. your gift lives, as does your memory. thank you for being with us. love, Ava
I was fortunate to see Joe perform live during his one and only visit to the southernmost tip of the darkest continent. The trio comprised Joe, Victor Lewis on drums and I suspect Cecil McBee on upright bass, all of whom performed on the magical “Invitation” album. What a concert that was. It was a case of three men sounding like a much larger ensemble. And Joe’s comfort in relating his life and why and how certain compositions came about made it feel like we were visiting the home of a much loved old friend. If he had ever made it back down here, I’d have been first in line for tickets to his shows. But it was not to be. Rest in Peace great man, and I can only pray that I am worthy to meet you on the other side..
Very SWEET arrangement, in keeping with the original version! Yet, Joe updates the classic with tasty bass lines and synthesizer fills. Gorgeous! Love this song!!
