Memories.............i remember hearing "Renaissance" on the radio when it came out i can remember the day time and place - it blew my mind..... who needs drugs?!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This " ilk " of music is transcendent .... my Jean Luc experience goes back to mid 70 s at Melbourne s Festival hall with Mahavishnu Orchestra and then again with his own band......us old blokes appreciate a good reminisce..!
I’m 60. I have introduced many people to the magic of JLP, Dimeola, etc. I never tire of watching their face the first time they listen. Then they start writing things down......gotta get this.
Saw Jean-Luc play on a tiny old stage on the Princeton U campus so long ago with my best friend (we were both aspiring Jazz-rock drummers back then). The band roared into the first song and JL quickly walked on stage alone and began to play the melody. He turned and faced the band but stepped backwards onto a slanted monitor speaker at the front of the stage and fell backward at incredible speed! It was frightening how violent it looked! It could have killed him. He had put out his left arm and fell right on his favorite violin which shattered into many pieces while breaking his fall. He looked very shaken and emotional but he recovered himself quickly and it was a very enjoyable night. Unforgettable!
another great open hand drummer, Rayford has always amazed me, this is the best way to learn drums is to start from beginning playing open hand. Learning how to coordinate right foot on bass and right hand on snare is difficult but if you start doing it from beginning you can play with out ever crossing your hands unless you feel like showing off LOL
Peter Maxwell
Still does music with John McLaughlin too..=_==_=
